| Robata of Tokyo is Allentown's original and premiere Japanese restaurant for the last 20 years. Mr. & Mrs. Shindo have owned several Japanese restaurants in Pennsylvania and decided to add an Allentown location in 1985. They found their current location at 39 South 9TH Street in beautiful downtown Allentown and have remained a part of downtowns history ever since. After a few years the Shindo family decided to to give 100 percent focus on this location which is part of why we have become the best tasting show in town for Japanese and East meets West cuisine. |

Robata was the first and only Japanese restaurant in this area for quite a long time until recent years where more and more have popped up here and there. The one thing that stands us apart from them is the simple fact that we are owned and operated by a Japanese family and they are owned by many other Asian cultures. Asian cultures vary much like the rest of the world as they use different spices and methods of cooking and preparing food, which is not a bad thing, but when you want a true taste of Japanese culture....Robata is the only one that can provide that. Mr. Shindo takes his business seriously which is why he is the sole Sushi Chef at Robata. He uses only the freshest of ingredients and makes sure, in traditional Japanese manner, that every order not only tastes divine but also reflects beauty.

Mrs. Shindo is always there to greet and seat patrons with a smile and help them with whatever special needs they may have, from something special like a birthday or needing a place to sit where they can be comfortable with a wheel chair. During the week Mrs. Shindo does double duty as your server if you dine at the sushi bar or one of the booths in the bar/lounge area. Friday and Saturday nights Takako take over the sushi area so Mrs. Shindo can focus on making you feel warm and welcome at Robata. Takako is always upbeat and friendly and is a great resource for us, she speaks English, Japanese and Spanish !!
